When franchising with Granite and TREND Transformations, you’re not just getting any old home renovation business. While most businesses specialize in one or two specific areas, we’re able to cover a wider array of services – including complete kitchen and bathroom renovations.

We’re here today to discuss the latter, and bring some knowledge to the table about a few of the most popular bathroom remodeling trends that you need to be aware of – both as a Granite and TREND Transformations franchisee or as a customer who is looking for that perfect bathroom makeover.

Here are a few of the top trends:

Deluxe Showers

Showers are becoming more and more popular, even causing bath loyalists to at least add a shower to their home if not make the switch all together.

But while showers started as the quick alternative to the more time-consuming bath, more and more people are looking for comfort and relaxation in their bathrooms. Instead of just having a small, confined nook to shower in, consumers instead are opting for larger, open spaces that are more of a shower room.

As such, there are all sorts of amenities that are trending into more and more popular requests. Consider the following options when creating your shower: Spa showers with rain ceilings, built-in and/or portable shower benches, steam showers with several showerheads, larger walk-in showers with a removable showerhead to facilitate washing your pets, and high-tech water jets, showerheads, and body sprays.

Comfort and Convenience

Commonly referred to as “ease of use” products, these designs work in clients’ favor for several reasons.

Things in this category include comfort-height toilets and walk-in, no-threshold showers, as well as vanities and side-mount faucets.

The showers, especially, are of value, as the curbless feature makes them easier to clean and helps older residents age in place.

And who could complain about comfort-height toilets? The more space, the better.

Additionally, floating vanities can be fully customizable and look as much like a piece of art as they do a practical bathroom object.

Plus, having accessible facilities that comply with ADA regulations will increase a home’s resale value.

Smart Storage

One word: Amen.

Who doesn’t need more storage, especially in typically confined spaces like the bathroom? Taking advantage of space by installing more built-in cabinetry, and using vertical space to extend that storage to the ceiling, is a very popular trend.

One specific popular trend is creating a double vanity with plenty of open space for two, and wrapping the storage underneath and to the sides of it. It looks great, gives you the ultimate storage solution, and provides the spacious room you both need to get ready in your master bathroom.

When built-in cabinetry isn’t an option, many customers are also utilizing unique pieces of antique furniture for storage purposes, as well as open shelving concepts that are still very practical.

Media Centers

Bringing electronics into the bathroom is as common now as having them anywhere else. Think about it – how often do you go to the John without your smart phone, tablet, music player, or mobile gaming device?

Those handheld devices aren’t the only types of media people bring to the bathroom, though. Most commonly seems to be people bringing speakers into the bathroom for everything from listening to the news, playing relaxing music, playing regular music, or listening to podcasts or other online radio shows.

Because of this, bathroom design manufacturers like Kohler are revolutionizing bathroom designs. Kohler, for example, now has a showerhead with a built-in Bluetooth speaker.

But why stop there? Some consumers are even adding TVs in strategically placed locations – sometimes even inside the wall, so that they can catch up on the morning news, weather, stocks, and sports while getting ready, or even to just binge-watch their favorite TV while relaxing in a bubble bath.

Bonus Trend: In-Floor Heating and Towel Warmers
There’s nothing like the ultimate comfort of a warm towel fresh out of the dryer. And there’s nothing worse than a freezing cold bathroom floor in the middle of the night.
